Soaking It All In - New Tubs for 2011

I'm a shower guy, and based on an informal survey I took at the pub before a Whitecaps game, most guys are as well (although they're not too sure why I was asking why about their bathing habits). Yet, there's nothing quite like a nice hot bath, especially if hydrotherapy and a bottle of wine are involved. Much like the faucet industry, the manufacturers of bath tubs and spas are busy releasing new ideas this time of year to help you find new ways to soak away the day

I've always loved Kohler's collection of bathroom fixtures.  The Underscore Cube Bubble Massage bath is just another reason I have to create a bathroom big enough for a serious soaker tub.  Inspired by Japanese ofuro this 48" x 48" x 34" deep tub can installed as a drop-in or as an undermount.  The clean lines and crisp angles make it perfect for a contemporary ensuite spa.

The Essencia free-standing tub from Canadian manufacturer BainUltra is one of the most organic looking tubs I've come across.  The natural curves of the exterior hide the form-fitting shape inside, designed to helps cradle and relax the bather.  The Essencia also features BainUltra's built-in light and heat therapies and the optional Euphonia sound therapy system.

Duravit is offering their new Darling series which includes the Darling New bathtubs.  The elegantly clean lines are accented by the pronounced edge of the tub.  The edge acts as both a seat and as a shade for optional LED lights.  The tub can be complimented with wood or acrylic panels in a total of 12 different configurations.

Do you think these tubs could turn a shower-guy into a bather?  Perhaps if the manufacturers were to add a big screen television or a beer fridge they'd even win over my soccer mates.
